May Strategy & Impact Update,

This month marked a powerful step forward as we wrapped up our Strategic Planning process—shaped by the voices of over 40 dedicated members, leaders, and stakeholders. With expert guidance from Tiffany Legington Graham of Mission360 Strategies, what emerged is more than a plan—it’s a shared vision for where we’re going and how we’ll get there together. The energy, insight, and alignment in those sessions made one thing clear: our future is being built collectively, and it’s a strong one.

We also took that momentum to City Hall, where we spoke candidly about the realities behind Memphis’ economic growth. While investment is on the rise, too many in our communities are still working to catch up. We used this moment to advocate for intentional solutions—equipping our workforce, investing in neighborhoods, and ensuring small businesses have the support they need to thrive. Real progress means growth that includes everyone, and we’re committed to pushing that forward.

And as we look ahead, there’s plenty to be excited about—Symposium season is here. Planning is well underway to bring together bold thinkers, industry leaders, and our vibrant business community for an experience that informs, connects, and inspires. If last year was any indication, this is one event you won’t want to miss. Stay tuned—we can’t wait to share what’s coming next.

Strategic BCoM Meeting with Senator Bill Hagerty and Mayor Paul Young

On Tuesday, April 7th, the Black Chamber of Memphis hosted US Senator Bill Hagerty and City of Memphis Mayor Paul Young for a conversation with our members and partners about federal and local policy priorities.

Access to capital for growth, regulatory burdens on small businesses and Mayor Young’s 10,000 affordable homes initiative were the main topics of discussion.

Kitchen Classrooms to Career Pathways: Investing in Memphis’ Next Generation

The Black Chamber of Memphis is strengthening future talent through its Business Booster Program by creating early pathways into careers in food, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Recently, we supported culinary arts programs at Sheffield Career & Technical Center and Craigmont High School.

Sheffield received a $500 grant for cooking supplies to enhance hands-on training, while Craigmont was awarded $1,600 to support student participation in the SkillsUSA National Competition following their state-level wins.

These targeted investments help build a direct pipeline from classroom learning to career and business ownership, supporting Memphis’ long-term economic growth.

Be Staffed For Growth

anchored by remoting.work

Attention all aspiring entrepreneurs and business-minded individuals!

The Staffed for Growth webinar, hosted by the Black Chamber of Memphis in partnership with remoting.work, highlighted a powerful solution to one of the biggest challenges facing Black-owned businesses: access to affordable talent. By connecting entrepreneurs with vetted, full-time global staff at significantly reduced costs, the platform allows business owners to offload back-office work and focus on scaling revenue—addressing the reality that many small and minority businesses operate without employees.

Client testimonials emphasized improved efficiency, reliability, and the advantages of dedicated full-time support over freelancers. With a streamlined hiring process, strong security systems, and ongoing support, the model enables sustainable growth. The Chamber will continue building momentum through events and recurring webinars, positioning this approach as a key driver of business success and community impact.
